IBPS Probationary Officers / Management Trainees Examination Details


Direct entry point for dynamic young graduates at junior level management trainees in all public and private sector banks. A Probationary officer gets exposed to challenging assignment as also gets the opportunity to involve in nation building developmental activities.Good analytical and troubleshooting skills are required to be successful in a banking career.

Eligibility Criteria:

A. Essential Academic Qualifications: (Please see notification details to confirms)

  • A Degree (Graduation) in any discipline from a University recognised by the Government of India or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government.

B. Age Limit: (As on the date mentioned in notification)

  • Minimum Age: 20 years;
  • Maximum Age: 30 years (As on the date mentioned in notification. See the latest notifiction).

Selection Procedure:
       Online Examinations which will be conducted online are as follows.

Phase-I: Preliminary Examination:
Preliminary Examination consisting of Objective Tests for 100 marks will be conducted online. This test would be of 1-hour duration consisting of 3 Sections as follows:

Candidates have to qualify in each of the three tests by securing passing marks to be decided by the Bank.

An adequate number of candidates in each category as decided by the Bank will be short listed for the Main Examination.

Phase-II: Main Examination:
Main Examination will consist of Objective Tests for 200 marks of 2-hour duration consist of 5 Sections as follows.

There will be negative marks for wrong answers in the Objective tests. 1/4th mark or 0.25 mark assigned to the question will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Phase–III: Interview:
Candidates who have been shortlisted in the main examination for CWE PO/MT-V will subsequently be called for an Interview

Career Path:
After probation of two years during which they will be given intensive training, will be given placement in the next higher grade i.e., Assistant Manager, others who qualify in the test but fail to achieve the standards set for placement in Middle Management Grade Scale-II, will be confirmed as Officer Junior Management Grade Scale-I. The services of those Officers who fail to qualify in this process will be terminated. It provides opportunity to the meritorious and exceptionally brilliant officers to reach the Top Management Grade.
